Overview

Celebrating 100 years of award-winning National Geographic cartography, this exquisite new Tenth Edition of our prestigious world atlas is the essential resource you need to make sense of our fast-paced, ever changing planet.

The stunning array of political, physical, and thematic maps covers every area of the globe—including both Poles and all ocean floors—as well as the universe beyond. Compelling charts, graphs, and informational graphics make the latest geographic data clear and relevant at a glance, while dozens of color photos draw you closer to our world’s diverse people and places and their many interconnections.

Pinpoint the latest trouble spots in Africa and the Middle East. See the Earth’s natural forces at work. Follow emerging trends in land use, human migration, communication, energy consumption, and more. Examine additional new political plates of Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, and Australia. Find expanded coverage of Africa, more details on the Mariana Trench, plus a new close-up view of the strategic Mediterranean Basin. Venturing upward, you’ll also discover new information about Mars, our moon, and both the northern and southern night skies.

The 10th Edition also includes an expanded place-name index with more than 150,00 entries, with separate undersea, Moon, and Mars features. Extensive back matter includes flags and facts for all 195 nations, geographic comparisons, world time zones, metric conversion tables, and more.

The Deluxe Hardcover Edition comes in an elegant slipcase for added protection and distinction. This keepsake edition includes a large, double-sided map: one side depicts today’s physical world; the other side features the first world map published as a supplement to National Geographic magazine in 1922.

This is more than a reference, you want to keep it close by on a table for frequent browsing. It shows land masses, perspectives from both poles, ocean floors and the universe. My husband is from the Balkans, an insular place redefined by conflict, and he said at last someone in the U.S. got his part of the world correct. It's a heavy tome with a protective slipcase; I need two hands to pick it up. It's so large you have to shelve it flat. If anything could make it better, it would be adding the continental drift story, and how volcanoes and ice developed features we see today.

Comments about National Geographic Atlas of the World, 10th Edition - Hardcover:

WOW! You guys have really outdone yourselves on this one! What a massive accomplishment; everyone that had a part in putting this atlas together should be immensely proud. Great job! I am overwhelmed and impressed; best $$ I've spent in a long time. In this age of runaway technology and digital everything THANK YOU for producing this atlas in good, old-fashioned book format. It is beautiful. I feel like I should be wearing cotton gloves when I look through it. It is a superb reference: organized, current, thorough, compelling, informative and inspirational: an heirloom and a work of art. It even smells good. :-) Thank you.

Just love this Atlas.l have already owned 3 editions. Only thing I regret in Edition 10 is not having the volume bound in linen! Edition 7 was perfect - never showed wear or tear whereas the glossy finish of 10th Edition is not as hardy!!
          just a thought!
