Be careful, in the product's details they say you will be able to download the updates when they are ready. Well, that's not true, I bought the until 2010 version of the Complete National Geographic, and since then NO downloadable update has been made, I got in touch many times with them and they didn't provide me any solution. So if you want to download updates don't buy the Complete National Geographic, because they don't made downloadable updates as they say in the product's details.

P.D. Living in spain it is so much cheaper to download the updates than buy the new dvd's with the updates because of taxes.

It's worth getting it for this price (49.95 at this time) but don't expect National Geographic's traditional picture quality. They probably switched to digital printing sometime around 2000 (haven't pinpointed the exact year yet) and all issues since then look good. But even issues from the late 1990s are strongly lacking in the quality of the pictures.

Rendering is very slow.

On the positive side, the search works as it should and that alone makes this collection worthwhile. Imagine being able to search for a country and read all the National Geographic articles about that country since 1888 until now.

Comments about The Complete National Geographic: 125th Anniversary Edition:

My family has subscribed to National Geographic since the 1920's. I had cases of them passed on 2 generations. I bought the DVD 125 year collection because I grew up with the magazine. Several emails have gone unanswered and it appears they will never support a continuation of allowing a stand alone electronic version. Even upgrading my Windows 10 software rendered the DVD unusable. Shame on National Geographic for ignoring their past. I am done after having family dedication for nearly 100 years.

Comments about The Complete National Geographic: 125th Anniversary Edition:

Loved the product at first. This is my second purchase of it. I first bought it on a massive number of CD-Rom's, then a smaller number of DVD's.
Now the NG Society shop wont even bother to reply to emails on the subject of updates.
Looking at the price, it appears that this second set is now ready to become obsolete and probably not replaced this time. Very disappointing effort from the NGS. Someone down there needs a good kick in the backside to get any response.

Since 2010 ONLY the downloadable updates from 2011, 2012 and 2013 have been issued. So if you want this producto for uploading it, keep in mind this. They DON'T issue the downloadable updates or at least they don't do it when they should.

Comments about The Complete National Geographic: 125th Anniversary Edition:

My parents subscribed to The National Geographic in my growing up years. There was a bookcase full of the magazines.

My favorite issue is October 1974 because my cousin had 3 pictures published in The Blue Plankton article. They are the three blue ones on a double page spread.

Comments about The Complete National Geographic: 125th Anniversary Edition:

As an independent non-commercial blogger who writes about the history of wristwatches, I use the digital version of The National Geographic for archival research. In particular, the Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, PA routinely placed its brand advertisements in the National Geographic. I am so glad that the magazine has done cover-to-cover scanning of its issues.

Comments about The Complete National Geographic: 125th Anniversary Edition:

The search function is hit and miss. A search for "Mount St. Helens" yeilds "O" results. Yet there are several articles about and including Mount St. Helens, even with THAT SPELLING of the name. A more useful search engine would be an exhaustive concordance. Many of the scans of magazine pages from before 1990 are blurry and hard to read. The scanned pages are uneven and not placed professionally; many are crooked.

Comments about The Complete National Geographic: 125th Anniversary Edition:

I really enjoy this new old (some of it) information. I always learn a lot and children are facinated and learn concerns about where they live, where animals live and the whole world in which we all live. The pictures are very beautiful and you can learn a lot just seeing how others live as well as the environment in which they share their respective habitats.

Comments about The Complete National Geographic: 125th Anniversary Edition:

The installation took more than four hours on a modern machine. When started, the text and images were very small necessitating resizing to view each page and then resize again, and again for each page and similarly for each image.

Worst possible presentation short of being totally illegible

This version is much easier to navigate than the original, which I also have, simply because there are fewer discs. I have been enjoying National Geographic for 60+ years and absolutely love it. I recommend this to anyone who loves and cares about our planet. This set of DVDs is simply the best ever. Look, read and learn....
