Using seamless USGS topographic data, we're able to create home decor featuring maps of your most meaningful places. Provide any U.S. address and artisans in New England will create a coaster set on cork-backed, rustic tumbled marble-that reproduces a map of your location.

The map will show topographical information covering nine square miles including your chosen location, with some main streets and major landmarks. A small compass rose will indicate your chosen location and the address you provide will be featured on the personalized map legend. See the images above for examples of maps featuring both rural and suburban areas.

Please note: Personalized items cannot be returned unless damaged or defective. Please check your order carefully; once placed, your order for this item cannot be canceled. Not available for shipment outside of the U.S. Please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery to the continental U.S. and 4-6 weeks for delivery to Alaska and Hawaii.

Each coaster is 4" square.

What is TOPO? Topographical maps display land features such as elevation, roads, water, mountains, and some significant landmarks. Town and county names are sometimes shown. Streets are sometimes labeled. TOPO! is National Geographic’s own series of topographical maps.

How old are the maps? Our maps were originally drawn as long ago as 1890 and may have been updated many times since. Each map has been updated at least as recently as 2008.

What are topographical maps? Topographical maps display land features such as elevation, roads, water, mountains, and some significant landmarks. Town and county names are sometimes shown. Streets are sometimes labeled.

Why do you need a postal address? We create a 9-mile-square map with your chosen address just off center. We also type this address in the map legend. Please double-check the spelling! We do catch and fix most errors, but your help is much appreciated.

My map is off by a few miles or many miles! On rare occasions our mapping software does not recognize a location. This is more likely to happen in rural areas—you may have had similar experiences with online mapping services. If we do accidentally handcraft an incorrect map, we will work with you to determine the coordinates (latitude and longitude) of your location and create a new map for you using that data.

Why is my map so busy/so sparse? The charm of this product is that we use real maps, which are unique to every address. A map of New York City (population more than 8 million) will include many streets and alleys. A map of Box Elder, Montana (population just under 800), will be the exact opposite.

About Tumbled Marble

Our rustic tiles are carved from large marble blocks, ensuring that no two stones will ever be exactly alike. Then the pieces are tumbled to give them character that can be seen on every surface, edge, and corner. The result is a one-of-a-kind keepsake with more personality that would be possible from a piece of manufactured ceramic. Please see additional images for an example of a tumbled marble tile.

Great gift to anyone for anything!

These geographic specific coasters are the best item in years! I have used them over and over again for so many friends in the past 5 years. Everyone raves about them.

Great, but Disappointing

Oh, I was so pumped about this -- the perfect Christmas gift for my wife. The coasters are beautiful -- genuine marble, wow! The really disappointing thing is the placement of the compass-like "you are here" thing -- it's right over the actual address, the purpose of the whole map, the reason to invest in a keepsake -- so "my" street, the adjoining street names are all covered by the symbol. Sigh Really? And out of the four coasters, two are pretty worthless, just showing green mountainous areas. I wish there had been some kind of follow-up email to show the placement of the four different coasters. I would have gladly suggested, instead of putting the starting address in the middle, do everything off-center to show the rest of the streets, not just terrain. Sigh I did not say anything to my wife. She was pleased and surprised, but she quickly looked up and said, "But you can't even see the name of our street?" Sigh I was a history major. I grew up in this town. This was really going to be "the perfect" gift, and almost was.

Perfect gift to show love of a hometown

I bought these 2 years ago to give as a gift. They were awesome! No, they dont show your street close up but rather your area, town and community where you live, the streets you drive, the features of your area like lakes and rivers. For someone who loves their town, college or area, these are a great conversation piece on the coffee table. Now, Im back buying them for someone else!

Eye-catching gift

I wished it would have more narrowed down & displayed more towns instead of every topographical element. The name Middlebury was on a rounded edge instead of prominently displayed. It was a great gift for a son who has everything & is so picky as to what gets displayed. & used.

Impossible to see

Sorry, but I needed a magnifying glass to find the home location on these, and even then wasn't sure that it was there. Unfortunately, these were to be a gift and I decided to return them. As they were, they were just a decent coaster without specific home location showing. Surrounding streets were there, but they certainly were far less than special.

Map used was wrong

Could not find a current or historical map like the one used. Now I stuck with it because I can not return it unless they used the wrong address Many map companies let you preview the map on-line before you purchase. Nat Geo did not

"My Town" Map Coasters Set

I wanted a remembrance gift about the location and that's exactly what I got...very good quality and useful as coasters, too. The only thing I might suggest is a wooden holder to place the coasters so they could be used as a trivet also...just a thought. I also purchased a trivet as a gift for another person...also excellent.

Stocking stuffer

I go to NGS for unique gifts. This was small enough and personalized. I expect good quality and these coasters met my needs.

I am the person whose review was titled "Disappointed." And now, I'm the person who's DELIGHTED! Thanks to extraordinary customer service from a company that clearly cares about its products, I have a whole new set of coasters that accurately reflects the streets in my town. Each coaster is different, and it's fun and fascinating to look at them. I'm grateful to the rep who took the time and had the interest in making sure they were done right. I have no hesitation in highly recommending this product, and am sure it'll be the WOW gift for my sister that I'd hoped it would.

Caveat Emptor

SO disappointing! I had intended this as a WOW gift for my sister, given that this is the town in which we grew up. I searched diligently for our street and those surrounding it...not to be found. I saw some streets I recognized on various coasters, but not ours. I am puzzled that a reputable outfit such as National Geographic would offer this, and I WILL NOT order again from this group. A huge (and not inexpensive) mistake. Who'd know! But now, you do. Caveat emptor!
