Overview

See Mars as it really looks, from the heights of Olympus Mons (nearly 70,000 feet above the surface), to ancient canyons, to Hellas Planitia, the lowest point on Mars, where a meteorite punched a hole in the surface 1,300 miles wide and five miles deep. Destination Mars was created for National Geographic with over 1,000 images taken by the Mars Orbiter Camera, and merged with 330 million elevation points to create the sharpest view yet of Mars and its spectacular terrain.

The map is encapsulated in heavy-duty 1.6 mil laminate which makes the paper much more durable and resistant to the swelling and shrinking caused by changes in humidity. Laminated maps can be framed without the need for glass, so the frames can be much lighter and less expensive.

Comments about Destination Mars: 2-sided Wall Map, Laminated:

Not only a map, but a wealth of information! The map itself is wonderful and detailed. It is so fantastic to live in a time we can buy a detailed map with labelled features of another planet! The front has interesting information on the polar ice-caps (with smaller maps in the corners to show them), shows Mars' position in the solar system, has a sort of glossary for the latin names and a chart compating various features of Mars to the Earth (Diameter, Mass etc.) in addition to the main map and introductory paragraph. The back has an astonishing variety of facts for the space and all is very interesting to read and look at. The only problem is only being able to hang one side out at a time! But for the price, maybe we'll get another. The lamination is nice. Durable but easier to ship than a frame. Very reasonable shipping costs. Bought this as a gift for my partner, as we have our whole basement decorated with maps, but he hasn't hung it up yet as he has been too busy reading one side and perusing the other.

Comments about Destination Mars: 2-sided Wall Map, Laminated:

I plan to use this in my classroom as a part of a year-long Mars themed project. It shows great detail and the information of the back will help my students visualize topography and evidence of water found there.
