The perfect book for techies -- young or old, male or female -- who readA Popular ScienceA andA WiredA or watchA "How It Works" and "How It's Made."
How does the voice of a distant radio announcer make it through your alarm clock in the morning? How does your gas stove work? How does the remote control open your garage door? What happens when you turn the key in the ignition? What do antibiotics really do? Divided into four big realms -- Mechanics, Natural Forces, Materials & Chemistry, Biology & Medicine -- The Science of EverythingA takes readers on a fascinating tour, using plain talk, colorful photography, instructive diagrams, and everyday examples to explain the science behind all the things we take for granted in our modern world.

Disappointing

I bought this for my grandson. I was very disappointed in the brief descriptions of the items. It only gave a simple description and no real insight into how anything works.

Worthless exercise

This book is not worth the paper it is printed on. Explanations are extremely short and the reader is supposed to get the technical info from general explanations provided in footnotes. I realize the title sounds too good to be true, and it is. Don't bother buying this expensive piece of fluff.
