When DNA is passed from one generation to the next, most of it is recombined by the processes that give each of us our individuality. But some parts of the DNA chain remain largely intact, altered only occasionally by random mutations, which become what are called genetic markers.   No. the Genographic Project will not conduct any health-related tests on the DNA samples provided by participants. The DNA analysis conducted by National Geographic is intended to determine what migratory routes your deep ancestors followed, on which branch of the human family tree you belong, and what your regional genetic affiliations are. The markers analyzed to generate these results do not have any current known health-related association.
• How does Helix provide my DNA information to National Geographic? Is my information shared with anyone else?
  
  Your DNA information is stored securely by Helix. When sequencing is complete, Helix only sends the relevant DNA information needed by National Geographic to generate your deep ancestral and regional reports. We do not share your DNA information with anyone without your permission. We always maintain the highest standards when it comes to the security and privacy of your DNA information.
• How do I view my results?
  
  National Geographic will send you an email when your results are ready to be viewed on Genographic.com. You can also log in at any time to view the status.
• How accurate are my results?
  
  "Your DNA is sequenced using our Exome+ technology. We provide National Geographic with more than 200,000 markers from your autosomal chromosomes, the Y-chromosome, and mitochondrial DNA. The results of your sequence are then compared to each of 60 geographic and ethnic populations to calculate which two of these populations were most similar to you in terms of the genetic markers you carry.

  The app is available to U.S. customers only, and is available only for use on Apple iPhones and iPads. It can be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store. You will need your Helix account information to log in and access your results.

  "Geno 2.0 Helix Kit has $9.95 Shipping & Handling (S&H) per kit for delivery within the United States. A maximum of 20 US kits can be bought at a time.
  The Geno Next Generation Helix Kit is not available outside the 50 United States or District of Columbia."

  Due to the cost of the DNA analysis, once the kit has been opened, we cannot accept returns or administer refunds. If the purchase is for your first DNA Product, you may request a refund within 30 days of purchase as long as you have not yet received and registered your DNA Collection Kit. This refund will deduct shipping and handling fees and a $25 cancellation fee. You can request a refund by calling National Geographic Store Customer Service at 1-888-557-4450 and providing your order confirmation number. Once you have received and registered your DNA Collection Kit, your purchase can no longer be refunded.

Please note that DNA kits sold before this date can not be exchanged.
  If Helix receives your DNA Collection Kit more than 12 months after the kit was ordered, they will give you the option to receive a replacement kit for a $25 replacement fee and shipping and handling fees. If your DNA Collection Kit is lost or damaged, please contact Helix Customer Care for help with replacing your kit. Depending on the circumstances, a fee may apply."
