During the Cultural Revolution, a new art form emerged in China's villages, inspired by the country's traditional folk arts. With bold primary colors and simply rendered motifs of families, festivals, and daily life, this style of art is sometimes called peasant painting because many of those who excel at it are rural folk artists with no formal training. The painting "Art Studio" features two young artists working together on an ink painting of peonies. In "Ceramics Shop," a couple sit around a tea set with a pair of Ming vases in the background. These works of art are original paintings, signed with the artist's seal or "chop," and will vary slightly. Each comes in a black wooden frame that is ready to hang. 19" square.
