Chinese Carved Snuff Bottle
Palm-size snuff bottles from China's Qing dynasty (1644–1912) were highly sought after by European traders. This Qing-style snuff bottle is hand-carved from layers of turquoise-hued lacquer, using a method that can involve as many as 300 steps. Each layer of lacquer is applied, dried, and carved, a time-consuming process that creates intricate depth but can be ruined by the smallest slip of the knife. 3''H.
