Bird raising in China dates back to the founding of the Qing dynasty in 1611. Members of the new elite class spent their time in teahouses showing off their birds with friends and learning about new and different species. These whimsical, brightly colored blown-glass ornaments celebrate that traditional love for small songbirds as well as the deeper mythological belief that birds are a link between heaven and Earth. 2 3/4''L.
