The Toraja culture in southern Sulawesi, Indonesia, has roots in the animist beliefs of aluk to dolo, the way of the ancestors. No written language exists, and important concepts are communicated through wood carvings called pa'ssura. The central motif of this necklace is a hand-carved bone shield with a Toraja ''eternity knot.'' Made by master Indonesian craftsmen, the Toraja knot is suspended from a rope of Javanese glass beads, carved bone, cultured freshwater pearls, and a faceted garnet set in sterling silver. Adjustable: 21 1/2''L to 23 1/2''L
