One of history's great clipper ships, the Cutty Sark was launched in 1869, just as the Suez Canal was opened and the steamship began its ascendancy. It was the last clipper built as a merchant vessel, and was in service until the 1950s. A fun bit of Cutty Sark trivia is the origin of her name, a Scottish word for a woman's short chemise and the nickname of the character Nannie in poet Robert Burns' "Tam o'Shanter." Likewise, Nannie was the name of the Cutty Sark's carved wood figurehead. Fully assembled, this handsome model is handmade from wood and cloth to faithfully reproduce all of her hallmarks, from the shart bow to soaring masts and sails. Imported. 20 1/2''L x 17''H.
