A polar bear resting on the ice and basking in the weak Arctic sun. A dozing bear won't stay until autumn blizzards hit. Snow, cold, and the promise of food will lure him toward Hudson Bay to stalk the winter ice. With ice tending to melt earlier in the spring, the winter hunt grows urgent. Here and elsewhere in the bears' southern range, sea ice melts in the summer. Without ice for a platform they cannot hunt seals, their main prey, and so they fast, eating almost nothing until ice forms in autumn. 20'' x 16''.
