A white-breasted (or white-throated) kingfisher perches on a branch. It is distinguished by its brilliant blue wings, white breast, and long red bill. These kingfishers are almost twice the size of the common kingfisher and are identified by a loud shrill call. These bird is found across the Asian subcontinent, often in rural and wetland areas. This particular photograph was taken in Bandavgarh National Park, India, so named for the ancient Bandavgarh Fort that now lies in ruins high on the plateau.
