The Royal West India Mail Service ran from Amsterdam to Dutch Guiana beginning in 1883, with a fleet of more than two dozen ships that carried mail, supplies, and people through the West Indies until 1914. This sturdy clock is a replica of from a bulkhead of one of the RWIM's ships. The painted canvas face features Roman numerals and is set within a deep antiqued brass frame. A unique historical detailthat you can also look for on town and church steeple clocksis the use of the numeral "IIII" for four, instead of the more accurate "IV." This was done to balance the "VIII" of the numeral eight on the other side of the face.
