During Japan's 17th-century Edo period, Indian-made indigo dyes became extremely popular because of how well they took to natural cotton fabric. Indigo is also the main dye used in shibori, a form of shaped-resist dyeing that has been practiced in Japan since the eighth century and has since been adapted by artisans throughout the Asian continent. This intra-Asian cultural trade continues in our reversible indigo cotton jacket, handmade in India using the Japanese shibori method.
