This handwoven straw hat recalls the golden age of travel while offering extremely lightweight sun protection. Although woven toquilla palm hats are a 400-year-old Ecuadorian craft tradition, the world knows these as Panama hats. While President Theodore Roosevelt visited the Panama Canal in 1906, he was photographed wearing one, and they became globally popular. Toquilla palm is grown on Ecuador's west coast in villages accessible only by foot. A cottage industry of artisans harvests the palm and weaves it into these soft yet structured hats. Handmade by artisans in Ecuador.
Can be damp-ironed to remove wrinkles.

Comments about Handwoven Straw Hat:
I was shocked at how tiny this hat was (I ordered a large). It would barely fit a child. I returned it and bought a hat elsewhere so I could try it on.

Comments about Handwoven Straw Hat:
I ordered this attractive hat for my husband using the size chart provided by NatGeo. The hat arrived and I was pleased with it except for the fact that it was too small. So, I sent it back for exchange. Three weeks after mail confirmation of arrival, I call NatGeo. They had no record of receiving it, but checked my delivery confirmation and processed a hat in a larger size. When we received the new hat it was crushed and one of the straws was broken. It was packed as though it had been shoved down in the box had air cushion packing filling the rest of the space. Undoubtedly, they must have expected that it may be damaged because there was a note instructing how to remove wrinkles using a damp cloth and iron. I did not order a MAKE A HAT KIT, but now I have one. I have already spent [$]to return the first hat that was ordered from a defective size chart. Should I spend another shipping fee and deal with their very slow service to possibly get another crushed hat that I will have to repair. Based on this experience, I will NEVER order from NatGeo again.

Comments about Handwoven Straw Hat:
I have read the care tag and will try to iron the hat but proper packing would have solved the problem. Blocking a hat is not an everyday skill and I expected this hat to bounce back from travel. It didn't
