Comments about National Geographic Explorer Shoulder Bag - Medium:
I own this bag and the explorer medium backpack bag as well.
I am beyond happy with both. I use my shoulder bag for all daily transport of my equipment. I like that the bag has a computer area as this was very important to me, but it WILL NOT fit anything larger than a 13" system and still be able to close the flap/lid. Think iPad or tablet PC. You can however turn your 14" or 15.4" computer on edge and use the compartment but you will not be able to close the flap. I did not really have in mind to transport my laptop at all times though. Only once in awhile in the shoulder bag. More often than that and I shift to my backpack bag and use it for transport.
I looked forever to find a style of bags that fit my taste and the explorer series is spot on with what I like. The functionality is wonderful and the quality of construction, while it is not as durable as a leather bag, the hemp is pretty strong. Padding is there for your lenses, but is lacking in the remaining part of the bag. Closed cell foam is used for the lens compartment. I chose this medium bag over the large because I found a bag locally with similar dimensions to large shoulder bag and it was too huge to lug around daily. That is a suitcase versus this being a briefcase. For reference...
I successfully carry these items in this bag:
-Canon EOS 7D with grip
-17-50 f/2.8
-70-200 f/2.8 L
-8-16 f/4.5
-Lensbaby
-(2) 580EX2 flashes
-extra batteries and parts and accessories
I have done some minor modifying to mine to strengthen and customize both of my bags. If not for the original design and quality and color and materials of these bags, I would still be looking. I am very, very happy with their products and both my bags.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
