Two-thousand years ago, the aqua-hued glass fragments in this unique jewelry were part of a vase, jug, or vessel. It may have been a wineglass used to toast a business deal, a temple vessel that held holy oil, a bottle of perfume given to woo a sweetheart. Over the centuries, the broken pieces—recovered from ancient Roman archaeological sites in modern-day Israel—became textured and colored through exposure to minerals in the earth, and now bear unique traces of their long-ago life. Each piece of Roman glass is framed by a sterling silver bezel and dotted with tiny freshwater pearls.

Handcrafted in Israel. 1 1/2"L x 3/4"W.

Comments about Roman Glass and Pearl Earrings:

I bought these as a birthday gift for my girlfriend. She collects sea glass and I was drawn to the history behind these earrings. I was sadly surprised when I took them out of the box. They were much lighter in weight than I expected. The metal was bent up and feels very cheap, almost plasticy. The little description card in the box said there is a patina on the glass, but it just looks grimy. And the pearls don't look real at all; they also look like plstic! Everything looks like it was glued together instead of handcrafted. I was very disappointed considering the price I paid and almost returned them. My girlfriend says she loves them though. I just really hope that they don't fall apart after only a few wears. Expected much better from National Geographic.
