National Geographic's award-winning cartography is available as a map that is yours to customize. Specify up to 70 characters of your choice for the map title—The Wells Family Travels or The Hill-Brown Family's Genealogy, for example. Includes 20 each of five different colors of map pins to mark the locations that inspire memories and spark your imagination.
Please note: Personalized items cannot be returned unless damaged or defective. Please check your order carefully; once placed, your order for this item cannot be canceled. Please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery. Not available for shipment outside of the 48 contiguous United States.
- Mounted. Choose from light, dark, or black wood frames made from a combination of very lightweight pine and durio, a southeast Asian tree chosen for its flexibility and good adhesion as a veneer.
- 38 1/2" x 26 1/2"
- Scale: 1:45,500,000 or 1"=718 miles.
Please note: If you choose not to add a personalized name to your map, the framed area in the center bottom of the map will be blank. We cannot remove that framed area from the map image.
The legend reads:
- Green pin indicates place visited in the world
- Yellow pin indicates planned destination
- Red pin indicates dream destination
- Blue pin indicates location of family and friends
- Black pin indicates genealogical roots

I bought this map as a gift for my husband who was describing this exact product only days before I found it in the NG catalog. Despite the price, I purchased it along with an extra set of pins. The map was delivered much faster than I expected and the quality is gorgeous. The text is crisp and clear, many major cities are labeled within each country (which I didn't expect with a map of this size), and the color is perfect. The frame is light but sturdy. Though I haven't hung it up yet (it's a Christmas gift), I think it will look lovely with our decor.
The only cons are the price of the map and the pins. I also agree with a previous reviewer that I don't like the legend for the pin colors - it would have suited us better to use the black pins for something else other than our heritage. Now we either have to choose to not use the black pins, or to paste something over that section of the legend. Neither seem like good choices. I'd also like it if we could purchase separate color bags of pins rather than a mix bag (since the color we want to use most is the green and red).
Overall I'd recommend this product, but I hope NG offers some alternatives for the product in the future to improve it for future buyers!

We put this map in our kitchen. We have really enjoyed marking the places we've been and the places we hope to see. It is a great conversation piece - and it seems like we are always entertaining in the kitchen. I thought the quality was superb.

This is a gift, but I had to open it to make sure everything was as it should be. And over all it looks great! Lifting it up and feeling the frame...it could be a little better quality, especially for what I paid for it. Basically, it will function just fine...as it is mainly for looks. We will see if it withstands the pins with time...

This Map is attractive on a wall and great to show places you have been or to look back and think on those place when you just want to reminisce.
I thought the quality of the paper and cork would be better.
The size of the map itself should have been larger since it is difficult to insert pins on the small names if you have traveled many places. The pins are much overpriced at ten cents each. Too few of colors. I have used 200 and waiting for another 100.
I would not have listed the definition of colors on the map for the pins meaning since they don't line up with my ideas of use.
I would recommend this to a friend with caveats. I have not seen a better one in person so I have to do with this one. The best soliution would be to buy the world map and make your own, wow, wouldnt that be a hassel!
