Originally produced only in woodcut form, this map was published in National Geographic Magazine in April 1893, just five years after the Society's inception. This Latin version was first published in April of 1493, followed by a German version in December of the same year. It makes a perfect companion to the world map by Johannes Ruysch, which is one of the first known maps of the new world.
The map shows known countries, mountain ranges, rivers, and other natural features in Europe, portions of Asia, India, and Africa. The spectacular marginalia is filled with the winds and mystical figures. This version is laminatedfeaturing a "write and wipe" surface and durable plastic covering.
