Destination Maps combine finely detailed maps with fascinating and practical travel information. Maps feature a large-scale city map, richly layered with tourist and business travel locations and information. 3-D styled drawings provide you with instant identification of famous buildings and landmarks. The reverse side includes regional maps, top attractions, airport diagrams, travel tips, transit maps and an extensive index to streets, cities, neighborhoods, parks, points of interest, museums, monuments, government buildings, subway stations, hotels, and more. Multi-language legends are included on each map.
The DestinationMap series is still the most user-friendly map around. Places of interest are very easy to locate. The graphic design in ingenious. However, when I received my Dublin map (2011), I was disappointed that the map was not laminated as previously purchased versions were. I called NG and was told that all Destination Maps are now printed on their "tear-resistant, waterproof paper."
I am sure this is an improvement over the paper quality of other maps, but the durability definitely went down compared to lamination. Paper can still be crushed or creased and corners can still get dog-eared in a backpack. As a practical consumer and experienced traveller, I think lamination would be worth an extra charge. Additionally, NG's product description needs to be updated to reflect the fact that the maps are no longer laminated.
Was this a gift?:
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
From National Geographic:We are no longer laminating our maps; instead they are printed on a special tear-resistant and waterproof paper. This makes the map lighter and easier to handle. We are still in the transition phase so some of our maps are still laminated. Thanks for bringing to our attention that we need to update this detail.
