Comments about Southern Appalachian Mountains Explorer 3D:
I have the 17 map version of this product. Seamless Panning is great and Maps are very useful, best I have seen for Trail and Remote road info. Route tool is fun but distance on known trails is shorter than GPS shows. Route tool should draw a track for you with no limit on number of accurate points. Nice Charts and abilities to sort are great, but using it cause crashes. Software in general crashes alot, I just live with it, cause the trails are very detailed. Mouse over pop ups are very bothersome and should be changed to click only info. Profiles are good and useful, but don't show the grade info. Profiles do show distance to any point along the way. Trail charts do show trail difficulty, blaze colors, allowed useage, etc. Good trip planning tool! Waypoints and elevations are provided but hard to cut and paste that info into an email, etc. Likewise hard to cut and paste into waypoint locator. Printing looks good! Zoom levels are limited. Map can magnify further but only with blurred image, why bother! Grids are useless on screen but labeled on printouts. Roads are better than other maps I have seen but some still wrong. The maps are great, the software is crash and start over to get good trail info. Buy it and start crashing, you will truely love the maps. All my hiking folks love these maps. They are unbeatable!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
