The globe is named for Robert Bartlett (1875-1946), an Arctic explorer and navigator from Newfoundland, Canada, who won the National Geographic Society’s prestigious Hubbard Medal in 1909 for his efforts as part of Robert Peary’s expedition to the North Pole.
