It's the right size to fit on my desk. Would love a "HUGE" globe, but nowhere to put it!

Comments about Explorer Illuminated Blue Ocean Desk Globe:
PROS:
Looks great. My kids get excited about locating places and establishing their distances from our home city. Great for comparing country sizes and shapes, etc. A really 'worldly' tool that helps expand my kids' understanding of the earth and our place in it.
The base is really well constructed. Solid and attractive, like a smooth, rounded well-finished wood base.
CONS: Cheap construction:
The curved latitude arm that holds the globe to the base is made of cheap, easily breakable plastic. Also, there is a small free-floating plastic washer pin at north pole that holds the top of the globe and allows it to spin (at the top of this curved arm) and it too is not well designed and frequently pops out when the globe is lifted or moved (especially by a child). Further, this plastice washer falls to the floor when the pin pops out and can easily get lost or broken.

Comments about Explorer Illuminated Blue Ocean Desk Globe:
This beautiful globe was purchased for my 8 and 10 year old grandchildren, filling out their geography resources with the National Geographic Student Atlas of the World and the new National Geographic Challenge video game. They love all three. The globe, however, is so beautiful that it has pride of place in their family room.

Comments about Explorer Illuminated Blue Ocean Desk Globe:
For a [$] regularly priced globe, this is really disappointing. At that cost, the suspension arm needs to be solid metal construction. Instead its flimsy plastic. If I had know the arm was plastic, I wouldn't have spent more than $60 on it. Its way overpriced, even on sale and with a coupon code. No wonder its on sale too: South Sudan is missing from the map.

Comments about Explorer Illuminated Blue Ocean Desk Globe:
This product is very poorly manufactured and frankly should be recalled, not just because the brackets are poorly manufactured and come apart when you pick it up but it doesn't rotate well. Moreover, it contains typos and inaccuracies. The legend underneath the "Pacific Ocean" label contains two typos. First it says "Decibuous" when it should read "Deciduous", secondly "Shrubland" is spelled "Shrudland".
In addition to these typos there is an error in the location of the city Fredericton New Brunswick. I seriously question the integrity of this globe and the quality control measures National Geographic has in place, or in this case missing. Isn't your mission "Research, Education, Conservation and Exploration"?
Do not purchase this product!

not worth the money

Comments about Explorer Illuminated Blue Ocean Desk Globe:
I am not sure what material the traditional globes that you see around are made of, but they are not plastic. I was very disappointed in this gift that I bought for my husband. He didn't say anything, but I think he was disappointed too. For [$], I would expect the bracket to really be brass (or at least metal), not plastic. I expected the globe to be substantial like a real globe. It is plastic, so it is too light to really spin well. It also had a scratch on it where a small piece of plastic tore off, and the two halves form a large noticeable lump at the equator where it was put together, with a large piece of tape around it (which I'm afraid to take off. I'm very disappointed in the quality. However, it does light up.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
From National Geographic:Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry that the globe didn't meet your expectations. The plastic globe is what allows it to be translucent enough to be illuminable. Please contact us at 1-800-437-5521 and will be happy to arrange for a refund or exchange.
