Our legendary cartographers use a process that combines 17 layers of rich color printing with specially developed materials to create these virtually unbreakable state-of-the-art globes.
With the light off, the globe shows a wealth of political data and 5,000 place names, all printed in the patented National Geographic typeface. With the light on, the physical world is revealed with meticulously hand-drawn mountains, valleys, vegetation zones, and ocean floors.

Comments about Envoy Blue Ocean Illuminated Floor Globe:
The globe is useful in that it is a political globe with the light off and a physical globe with the light on. This makes it a good educational tool.
I didn't care for the finish on the wood base - it was rough and had a dull brown color. Both the physical and political maps lacked detail, which was disappointing. The character fonts used are too large, which cluttered up its appearance without gain of information, and I didn't think there was enough physical information.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Envoy Blue Ocean Illuminated Floor Globe:
This globe definitely has a special allure, whether as a decorative object or as a map to peruse. It is quite legible, especially when aglow, despite all the information covering its surface and is held at a convenient height to be studied while seated. Unfortunately, since the globe itself cannot be up-turned, the southern hemisphere is more difficult to view. Were the stand extendable, the lower half of the globe could also be brought to eye level. I wish the half meridian were metal instead of plastic so that the globe would feel weightier when turned and have smoother operation. I also wish the equatorial line was not so deeply colored as to form a seam around what otherwise, when lighted, would appear as the earth does, seen from space. I recommend plugging the cord into a rheostat so that the brightness of the 60-watt bulb can be adjusted from a level suitable for study to a more subdued level suitable for meditation.
Given the original price, I did expect a product of higher quality; nonetheless, this globe is a handsome object and a pleasure to study.

Comments about Envoy Blue Ocean Illuminated Floor Globe:
This a beautiful globe with tremendous detail. A Christmas gift for my husband and myself, I wanted a globe that was functional, provided concise information on the world we live in, and was attractive, too. The illumination is gorgeous! Not only do you see the topography of the world, but it also casts a beautiful soft light in the room. National Geographic fonts are easy to read and depict what seems like unlimited detail. We couldn't be more pleased! I just wish there was a 20" version of this exact same globe!
