we read many reviews of kids' toy binoculars and magnifying glasses, and most were pretty poor. This product had no reviews (so I'm changing that!) but I felt the NG brand might offer good quality. I'm VERY pleased with this set, particularly the binoculars and flashlight. The optics are very good on the binocs; focusing is easy and they stay in focus well. The body is chunky plastic and rubber, and I feel like they are going to hold up to outside play. The flashlight is great since it's 'kid powered' and my 5-year old loves it. It stores energy from pumping, which he thinks is very cool. The small magnifying glass is easy to misplace since it's entirely clear. I feel like this was sort of a freebie throw-in to the set. The compass is moderate quality, but it's honestly enough for my son who can't read one anyway. He likes flipping open the lid, since it feels very 'real' that way. Very pleased with this purchase.
