Just a couple of miles from the Mediterranean Sea, near the Cap Bon peninsula, lies the coastal town of Nabeul, Tunisia. This small city of less than 60,000 people is the center of Tunisia’s pottery trade, a tradition that extends 2,000 years back to the Roman era. Artisans working in a small studio in Nabeul pride themselves on hand-painting every element of their unique pieces.
Each piece is hand-formed from white clay, and then fired to create what’s known as a bisque. Finally, artisans hand-paint each plate in a different, coordinating pattern of blue and white glaze. The painting is entirely freehand, done without the use of decals or stencils. The 8" size is perfect as a salad plate or dessert plate and coordinates with all of the pieces in our other Tunisian pottery collection.
Handcrafted in Tunisia. 8 1/2" diameter.
