Cardinals, jays, woodpeckers, and chickadees are just some of the bird species who are likely to be attracted to a suet feeder. This one features a double cage construction designed to discourage unwanted diners like squirrels and cats. Suitable for year-round feeding, it's made of spot-welded, nylon-coated steel. The trap is easy to open and clean, and the locking mechanism on the lid doubles as a handle to prevent predators from opening the feeder. Developed with the British Trust for Ornithology.
The caged suet feeder is a great idea. Large woodpeckers to tiny chickadees visit it daily. Unfortunately so do the squirrels, who are very good at problem-solving! It took a few months, but eventually, the squirrels figured out how to pry off the lid and remove the entire block of suet! So we had to secure the two hanger mechanisms with a wire tie. They haven't figured out how to untwist the wire (yet).
