In 1609, world-renowned Italian scientist Galileo Galilei introduced an elementary telescope to the growing astronomy community and sparked interest in the mysterious night sky for centuries to come. Four centuries later, in celebration of the International Year of Astronomy 2009, Celestron offers the portable FirstScope Telescope.

A wonderful keepsake and ideal entry-level telescope, the FirstScope pays tribute to Galileo and many of history’s most notable astronomers and scientists by displaying their names around the optical tube. This quality Dobsonian style telescope features a 76 mm aperture reflector optical tube. Navigate the night sky simply by pointing the scope in the direction of the desired object—no complicated dials or calibration tools to adjust. The compact design makes it easy enough to take with you on your next outdoor adventure, and the scope’s “rock solid” stability is cited by Sky & Telescope as one of the reasons that this is an excellent telescope for novice astronomers.

  • 12"H x 12"W x 21"D. 4 lbs, 5 oz.
  • Size: 76 mm
  • Focal length: 300 mm (f/4)
  • Eyepieces: 20 mm (15x), 4 mm (75x)

"Within seconds of opening the FirstScope's box, you (or your children) can be exploring the universe around you day or night without most of the frustrations that generations of budding amateurs have endured with low-cost scopes. If you know someone just getting interested in astronomy, especially a youngster, the FirstScope is a great investment."—Sky & Telescope, October 2009

    Comments about FirstScope Telescope:

This is is a great scope for people who are just getting into astronomy. It gives clear images of the Moon's surface in great detail. Mars can also be viewed with this scope, but as this is only a starting telescope, the image is not in crisp detail. I would recommend this telescope to anyone who is getting into astronomy or is on a low budget.

Gazing the wonder of the sky. Light weight & easy to carry. Don't really think it is suitable for beginners.
