    Comments about Family Stargazer Telescope:

This telescope is fantastic. I've always loved looking up at the night sky after a long and fulfilling day only to again be awed by the amazing God given gift of technology and human ingenuity. It truly is wonderful. My long held vision of starring at the night sky for hours on end has come true! Thank You National Geographic for this wonderful opportunity—truly God Given!

    Pleasantly surprised

    Comments about Family Stargazer Telescope:

I was hesitant due to the reviews but I was pleasantly surprised with the telescope. I purchased for my 11 year old boy and it was easily set up and usable out of the box.

Is it the most powerful telescope that I have used, no. But, we were able to see craters on the moon! But, it does take some trial and error but that is part of the experience!

One note, we were missing the instructions but I called the customer service and they sent out a replacement and I received just a few days later.

    Comments about Family Stargazer Telescope:

This was a gift for my boys at Christmas from their grandparents. It has been nothing but a frustration. Even looking at the moon was difficult, and just forget about trying to look at anything smaller. The tripod wobbles all over, and the eye relief for the eyepieces makes them very difficult, almost impossible, to see through clearly. I cannot understand why anyone would even make a telescope this bad, I have better luck looking through my binoculars.

      Comments about Family Stargazer Telescope:

An example of what not to buy or gift. No documentation and malicious software when trying to use CD. Thanks for the two days I had to run anti-malware, virus protection and ad aware to get rid of when all I wanted to do was find out about the 10,000 object data base that never came up and how to properly assemble the lenses it comes with. Great red pointer for the 20 or so feet it points at in the dark! Don't try to keep it stable in one to see the night sky.

          Comments about Family Stargazer Telescope:

This was a gift to my kids from their grandparents. It was a pain to set up due to the lack of adequate instructions. We are still trying to use it for the first time as we are not sure it's correctly set up. Once it is assembled, the slightest touch changes the orientation of the scope. Not worth the time or money.

              Comments about Family Stargazer Telescope:

The telescope was a gift. I did not know what to look for in a beginner telescope so I purchased the Family Stargazer as it was affiliated with National Geographic and I believed this would give some assurance of quality. The set up and user manual provided was insufficient to get one started. The CD included only referenced a website to use and did not provide any useful information directly related to the telescope.
The knob for purposes of stabilizing the telescope was not working so the telescope continued to move while in use. I was disappointed for myself as well as NG, as I believe that this is not consistent with the quality of merchandise NG represents. I have since purchased a different beginner telescope at the same price and find it to be of superior workmanship. Setup and use instructions were also more detailed.
