The swirling pattern of paisleyin Farsi called boteh, the word for a young flower or palm leafevolved from a traditional Kashmiri design. The Silk Road brought Kashmiri shawls to Europe where they became wildly popular. The Scottish mill that was first able to re-create the intricate design was in Paisley, Scotland, and gave the pattern its English name. This lightweight, 100% cotton, open-front jacket is made in India with an allover paisley pattern. The greens, blues, reds, and pinks evoke the flowers in Kashmir's Shalimar Garden, built by 17th-century Mughal emperor Jahangir and famous for its nightly fountain displays.
