The swirling pattern of paisleyin Farsi called boteh, the word for a young flower or palm leafevolved from a traditional Kashmiri design. The Silk Road brought Kashmiri shawls to Europe where they became wildly popular. The Scottish mill that was first able to re-create the intricate design was in Paisley, Scotland, and gave the pattern its English name. This lightweight, 100% cotton, open-front jacket is made in India with an allover paisley pattern. The greens, blues, reds, and pinks evoke the flowers in Kashmir's Shalimar Garden, built by 17th-century Mughal emperor Jahangir and famous for its nightly fountain displays.
Women's sizes S (4-6), M (8-10), L (12-14), XL (16-18). Please note, that the garment does not have beaded accents as pictured.
The colors are a strange combination of gaudy/bright and muted. I had hoped that the muted colors predominated, but they don't. I wanted something more understated. I had hoped I could wear this to a semi-casual lunch in a cool restaurant where I'd need a jacket.
