The grounds of Vienna's Belvedere Palace have hosted one of Europe's greatest gardens since Belvedere was designed in the early 1700s. Topiary-lined avenues exist alongside the emperor's baroque private garden. This double-faced boiled wool jacket is designed with the same traditionally Austrian combination of elegance and exuberance. While it is crafted from imported material as listed on the Details tab, the jacket is authentic boiled wool. It is made using a circular knitting machine that creates bolts of knit fabric that are then boiled and shrunk. This is not the same as traditional Tyrolean loden, a similar but more rugged processed wool fabric. This particular style is double-faced boiled wool so there is no knit /purl side but both sides are knit. This fabric is appealing in that it has more stretch than regular boiled wool. The double-faced knit is also appealing because the boiling process creates a heathered effect.
