First issued to Navy pilots during World War II, the G-1 flight jacket is still standard issue for officers and enlisted aviation personnel in the U.S. Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard. For civilians, the jacket might be best known as the signature look of Tom Cruise's character Maverick from the 1986 movie Top Gun.
Our replica G-1 is made in the U.S. by Schott of pure goatskin, and has the same features as the real thing: a bi-swing back (a gathered inside back panel), under-sleeve gussets, front patch pockets with button-down flap closure and a hidden pencil holder, and a brass zip front closure. It even has the "USN" perforation detail inside the wind strip, and of course the mouton collar, which is sheepskin that's been treated to look like beaver fur.
The lining features an embroidered replica of the U.S. Navy aviator's wing and the Naval Flyer's Creed, which begins, "I am a United States Navy flyer: My countrymen built the best airplane in the world and entrusted it to me. They trained me to fly it. I will use it to the absolute limit of my power."
Union-made in the U.S. Please note: This is a replica of the military issue G-1. Goatskin leather shell, sheepskin collar, poly lining, nylon knit cuffs and waist. Men’s sizes M (38–40), L (42–44), XL (46–48), XXL (50–52).
