Visitors to Bali usually begin their journey in the island’s capital of Denpasar. This thriving city is home to a large percentage of Indonesia’s craft studios, and the handmade batik fabric that Bali is known for can be found in markets and boutiques throughout the city.
In these summer-ready cotton shirtsperfect for Bali’s hot and humid climatethe patterns are created by hand-stamping and hand-drawing wax onto the raw cloth. When the cloth is dyed, the wax-covered areas resist the color, letting an allover palm leaf pattern emerge. When the fabric is dry, it’s boiled to remove the wax, and goes through the process as many times as necessary to achieve the desired result.
Handcrafted in Bali, Indonesia. 100% cotton lawn. Men's sizes M (38–40), L (42–44), XL (46–48).
One of several 'world' shirts for tropical travel I've bought from NG. Green on black version is lovely, soft, and has behaved well through several washings (including line dry after tropical downpour). XL is slightly smaller than ideal for me, wish there was an XXL. Real proof is that I'm coming back for the other pattern.
