The crystal coating on a piece of druzy shines like glitter, but it's an entirely natural geological process. Druzy can occur on any kind of rock where water collects and evaporates. As the process happens over and over, minerals in the water build up into tiny crystals.
Here, Atlanta-based artist Mickey Lynn pairs a hand-picked piece of Uruguayan agate druzy with a strand of faceted chalcedony. Gold- and gunmetal-plated brass chains add to the contemporary layered look. The lavender-hued druzy is wrapped in 14-karat gold foil to highlight its natural outline. Each piece is unique and no two stones will be exactly the same.
