For long flights, campsites, and around the house, these boiled wool slippers from Austria’s Giesswein are built for years of warmth and comfort. Each pair of slippers begins with lamb’s-wool that is vigorously washed to create a dense yet breathable fabric known as boiled wool, or walk in German.

With features like a suede liner and a seamless interior that won’t scratch or chafe bare feet, plus an orthotic-quality footbed, they combine the comfort of a slipper with the support of a shoe. The non-skid outsole is made from natural rubber.

100% boiled wool upper, suede lining, and rubber outsole. Wool is made in Austria; assembled in Slovakia. Choose women’s red in European sizes 37-40 (U.S. 6-9), or men’s charcoal in European sizes 42-45 (U.S. 9-12).

Using Tyrolean mountain spring water, the knitted wool is subjected to pressure, motion, compression, water, and temperature during its transformation to boiled wool or “fullingware.” This fulling process lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to 12 hours. Flat drying and pressing helps to retain the material’s unique characteristics acquired during the fulling process while leveling the material’s width. The surface of the fabric will be roughed and sheared to create an extraordinary soft touch and to prevent pilling. Finally, forms are cut from the fabrics and the slippers are hand sewn.
