Inspired by the U.S. Army field watches that are heirlooms for many servicepeople, this watch receives accurate time signals from the U.S., U.K., German, and Japanese atomic clocks. A canvas band and stainless steel bezel retain the age-old look of analog craftsmanship, with a classic face featuring National Geographic's distinctive logo. Displays both 12-hour and 24-hour military time, world time in 31 cities, day of the week, digital date, and seconds. Luminescent hour, minute, and second hands.
Not available for shipment outside of the U.S. and Canada.
- Waterproof to 165 feet
- 9 1/2"L; 1 1/2"-diameter mineral glass face
We recommend having a jeweler replace the battery in this watch. It is intentionally challenging to open the case in order to protect the mechanism and preserve its water resistance.
We recommend having the watch battery replaced by a jeweler, as it is intentionally difficult to remove the back. This helps protect the watch mechanism. However, as global atomic functionality is relatively new, even experienced jewelers may have a difficult time re-setting the watch. Here are the steps to follow.
- The hour and minute must be manually set:
- Set the hour by pressing the bottom right button until the three-letter city code blinks. Press the button quickly two more times until you see "H" on the screen with a blinking number next to it. Press the top button to scroll through the hours, keeping in mind that this is displaying 24-hour clock time. Press the bottom right button again to set hour. You'll see a "wait" icon and the second hand will spin as the watch adjusts itself.
- Set the minutes by pressing the bottom right button until the three-letter city code blinks. Press the button quickly three more times until you see "M" on the screen with a blinking number next to it. Press the top button to scroll through the minutes. Press the bottom right button again to set the minutes. You'll see a "wait" icon and the second hand will spin as the watch adjusts itself.

Comments about National Geographic Atomic Field Watch:
I got an older version of this watch some time ago. Took it saltwater fly fishing and it did great. Toward the end of the trip it got 30 minutes behind and not having the directions with me, I could not reset it. It eventually died and I let it go. I pulled it out a month ago, could not find the directions, but they are located at Dakota Watch Company, under Original NG Atomic watch. I figured it out, got a new battery, and it works fine and is accurate. The directions however do not really tell you that when the analog hands are off, which is the fragile piece, you basically have to reset it. The directions allow you to reset it, and then it works. The digital portion of the watch is accurate; fragile analog hands get bumped and are then not in sync.

Comments about National Geographic Atomic Field Watch:
This was purchased and given as a Christmas present. Imagine the disappointment when the watch wouldn't even run. I called NG and they replaced it with another watch - and guess what - it ran but would not pick up the correct time. It was also returned. Pretty useless.

Comments about National Geographic Atomic Field Watch:
I couldn't agree more with the other comments. Once I had the battery changed by a jeweler, who couldn't get it set, it never worked again. Even following the complex directions the second hand never worked and nothing would change. I really liked the old military look with the band, however...

The second hand on watch became loose and started to slip, within a month of purchase. This watch was only used in an office environment, with no rough treatment. Inferior quality moving parts.

Worked fine and looked great until I had the battery replaced by a reputable jeweler. Now runs 5 minutes fast (accurately) and the "functions" don't operate.

DON'T BUY THIS WATCH

Comments about National Geographic Atomic Field Watch:
This watch took many days to set correctly, then wouldn't keep its own time. Directions were almost impossible to read, tiny print and written by a foreigner with little grasp of the english language. Recently, I needed a new battery, and now it won't allow me to go through the same routines to set it and won't set itself. It's been a big headache and disappointment ... and is about to go into the trash!
