Comments about Celtic Pocket Watch:
The crystal face (or better yet, plastic) popped out the second day of use. Was not matched correctly. Sent it back for replacement as it is truly beautiful only to be re-embursed the amount because they no longer carry the watch. Oh well! My only disappointment with NG.

Comments about Celtic Pocket Watch:
This Is A Mechanical Watch; there are no self winding references in the users/instruction manual. This time piece does an outstanding job doing what it was designed to do...keep accurate time. The Celtic Pocket Watch is a classic example of form and function. No day/date to distract from the watch face; no battery to fail and leave you in a learch. A brief note on use; yes you need to wind it and no you don't want to over wind it...what to do...I wind my watch about the same time each day; about 5am; and thats it until the following morning; and you don't have to crank it down tight-when you feel the spring tighting up that's it. Finding that wind spot varies from watch to watch so if you should wind the mechanism up to where it won't turn the watch is very forgiving...just don't crank it down real tight. Cheaper pocket watches are out there, and more and much more expensive pocket watches are out there; The Celtic Pocket Watch is competively priced and seems to be very well made. A great watch that can be well appreciated for what it is and equally well appreciated for what it is not.

Comments about Celtic Pocket Watch:
I only like pocket watches and was looking for one with a Celtic design. This pocket watch is just what I was looking for. I like to open the back of the watch to see it working. Right now with the weather being cold outside I am not as active as I am in warmer weather so I have to wind the watch every other day. Hopefully with the warm weather the self winding will work better. The only con I have is that the watch is more bulky then it appears in the picture.

Watch is not as advertised

Comments about Celtic Pocket Watch:
I requested this pocket watch as a gift because the write-up in National Geographic said that that the watch was uniquely self-winding, using a small internal weight that responded to movement and kept the gears moving. The watch is beautiful and very good quality, but it is NOT uniquely self-winding. It is the same manual wind as my other pocket watch. Therefore I have returned it. I am disappointed because it is beautiful and I wanted to support NG, but the actual characteristics of the watch were misrepresented in the advertisement.

Comments about Celtic Pocket Watch:
I bought this beautiful pocket watch for my older teen son. He has wanted one for a long time and this one met both our standards. He wanted a watch in which you could see the works, that had a snap down cover and that had the insides of the cover burnished in a pattern. I wanted something nice looking that was sturdy enough for him to carry every day. We both got what we wanted. The cover design is suitable for both men and women, the watch feels very solid in your hand, I find the works facinating to watch and if you open the front and back covers, the watch will stand in an upright position.
The only unfortunate detail was that the front cover of the watch did not open properly. I called the number listed on my receipt and National Geographic was absolutely great about the whole thing. I am very pleased not only with the watch but also with the service.

Comments about Celtic Pocket Watch:
I like the watch but it often runs down. Perhaps I'm just not lively enough at 77 to keep it wound.
