Intrepid WWI aviators and the barnstorming stunt pilots of the 1930s not only defied gravity but also braved subzero temperatures in their open cockpits. This 100% sheepskin hat will keep you warm in winter’s chilliest and windiest conditions. Wind-resistant sheepskin lined is with thick, fluffy shearling and features tie-down ear flaps along with smaller ear warmers that can be snapped up when you need to be able to hear, or worn down for maximum warmth.
For five generations, members of the Barry family of Somerset, England, have been involved in tanning and manufacturing sheepskin and leather. After his return from World War II, Owen Barry brought the family’s craft heritage together under the company that now bears his name and has become a leading source for the world’s top designers and retailers.
Hand-cut and sewn in Somerset, England. 100% sheepskin. Sizes S (approx. 21 1/2" circumference at brow), M (22 1/2"), L (23 1/2").
First of all, I don't always trust "glowing" reviews myself... so, do what you want with this information. I LOVE IT! I am always looking for something unique, something authentic... and this is exactly that. I live in Texas, so hats like this are not readily available as it rarely gets cold enough to warrant such. That said, it is perfect for the occasional sub-freezing day here (which usually is accompanied by strong winds). That hat looks as good in person as in the pics on the NG Store website. The shearing lining is supple. The sheepskin leather outer shell is stylish. I have a "big" head (7 & 5/8) and the fit was just right in the largest size offered. Overall, it is just what I hoped NG would have for me... that unique product that makes people ask where I got it (a chance to rave about the research / conservation efforts). If there are any cons... I think its unrealistic to not find anything that could be a little better... 1) the earflaps stick out (at least at this point - it's new) when not buttoned up & 2) the tie straps are a "waxed leather(?)" that seem just slightly less opulent as the rest of the hat (I would have liked a non-waxed, natural, "raw" leather that matches the aesthetic of the rest of the product). Anyway... it's awesome... get one!
