In the shadow of the Bluestack Mountains in northwestern Ireland, the town of Donegal has been renowned for its handwoven wool tweed for generations. A skilled weaver, working at a bench loom, could make up to 30 yards of fabric in a day, using home-raised wool that was often dyed using natural and local materials including moss, yellow gorse, and blackberries. Today the town's largest manufacturer of wool tweed is the Magee, Molloy & McNutt factory, which presides over Donegal's town center in a large redbrick building. About 25 local craftsmen still work on hand looms in their homes, filling the demand for the bespoke look of a well-tailored tweed suit or cap. This classic herringbone-patterned hat is 100% wool and handcrafted in Ireland.
In 1924 David Hanna Sr. started a small tailoring firm in Donegal, where he eventually decided to specialize in the making of handcrafted hats and caps. The very first ''Hanna Hat'' was created in 1964 and it took four and a half hours to complete. Hanna's vintage patchwork cap is one of the most unique of the company's designs. Each is a one-of-a-kind combination of tweed patterns and blends of color, guaranteed to complement virtually everything in your wardrobe. The wool is naturally moisture-repellent as well, and perfect for all kinds of weather.

This exactly replaces a similar cap that I left on a tour bus (the red double decker)in Dublin in 2011. It was like finding a long-lost friend!

Read previous reviews to know that the cap fits large compared to stated measurements, so bought the correct size. Love the cap, goes especially well with my handlebar moustache!

I liked the hat. The sizing was way off

Comments about Herringbone Donegal Cap:
The hat looks great: good material and workmanship. The hat is stylish, foldable, warm and better in the wind than anything else except a stocking hat. I have/had several similar hats that were size 6 3/4 or 7 inches (or equivalent mm sizing) that fitted firmly. The sizing is way off. In the small size, I can easily, simultaneously stick both thumbs under the band at my ears and it is still slightly loose.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This is a high quality handcrafted Irish cap. I'd rather buy an item from Ireland than China. If you want a quality crafted cap for every day wear this is the cap to get.

Comments about Herringbone Donegal Cap:
One of the most attractive hats out there. 100% wool, bold herringbone pattern with flecks of color. Real snap brim not found on less expensive hats This is an original. Lower priced hats from other hat retailers do not compare. No way to adjust fit. I bought an L, which is a little loose however an M would have been too snug.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
