Weather-resistant and extremely durable, Donegal wool tweed has long been one of the world's highest quality fabrics and a symbol of the Irish county where it is made. This tweed hat with a removable pheasant feather tucked in the band is a timeless way to protect against wind and weather. A patchwork of herringbone and houndstooth reflects the area's quilting traditions and retains the tailored look of a bygone age.
Made in Ireland. Wool, with poly lining and inner cotton sweatband. Each hat is unique and patterns will vary.
In the shadow of the Bluestack Mountains in northwestern Ireland, the town of Donegal has been renowned for its handwoven wool tweed for generations. A skilled weaver, working at a bench loom, could make up to 30 yards of fabric in a day, using home-raised wool that was often dyed using natural and local materials including moss, yellow gorse, and blackberries.
Today the town's largest manufacturer of wool tweed is the Magee, Molloy & McNutt factory, which presides over Donegal's town center in a large redbrick building. The fabric is prized by the largest international fashion houses as well as tourists looking for an authentic piece of highest quality Irish artisanry. About 25 local craftsmen still work on hand looms in their homes, filling the demand for the bespoke look of a well-tailored tweed suit or cap.

Comments about Donegal Tweed Wool Patchwork Walking Hat:
Hat is made incredibly large. Also, very bright/brassy looking, rather than the softer, more subtle tones shown in the catalog. Sent it back, since I would NOT be wearing that thing.

cool hat but had to return

Comments about Donegal Tweed Wool Patchwork Walking Hat:
cool hat but oversized. All my other hats are Large, but this in Large size was much too large. Loved the look but had to return it. Afraid that if I reordered in medium it would be too small. The shipping to return and reorder and possibly have to return again would total to as much as the hat cost itself. So I guess no hat for me. It really is a nice product but just don't fit right

I would have loved to keep this hat BUT

Comments about Donegal Tweed Wool Patchwork Walking Hat:
Had to return hat, every other hat I have is a large, but his large was way too large, at least a half size if not more. Would like to order it again but worried the medium would be too small and paying postage both ways on two hats would amount to $52+. So guess I admire it in the catalog.
Also wish it were available with concealed ear flaps.
