Oruro Leather Bag

Artisans in Bolivia's Oruro and Potosí communities craft this buttery-soft leather bag, combining pieces of traditional woven tapestry. Both towns grew up around local silver mines in the early 1600s, but today the region is known more for its crafts and festivals like the famous Carnaval de Oruro. The tapestries are created on horizontal looms, with the artisans making up the pattern as they go along. Craftspeople in nearby La Paz combine the weaving with supple leather to create a handsome everyday bag.

Strap is adjustable from 37-50". 11 1/2"W x 13"H x 1 1/2"D.
