Explore the origins, history, and contemporary cultural and culinary uses of fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, beverage plants, herbs, and spices.
A "Food Directory" cameos individual plants, with botanical description, culinary role, and healing powers. Tantalizing anecdotes dip into such diverse topics as the Japanese Cherry Festival; cacao, Mayan "food of the gods;" and the 17th-century Nutmeg Wars, which determined New York's future.

Comments about Edible:
I absolutely love this book! The brilliant photos (check out the 'Fruits' opening page 60-61) makes my mouth water!), the variety and up-to-date as well as unique foods depicted and described, not often found elsewhere. As a nutritionist and gluten-free, live-raw food product creator, this book has come in so handy at my farmers' markets to show people the foods I am using. I have used it numerous times as a resource when asked about where certain foods come from or how best to prepare them. I love the historical orgins info and botanical facts, they help add intrigue and connection with our foods.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
