Men's Irish Donegal Tweed Sweater
Ireland's northernmost county is a land of peat bogs, sandy beaches, and windswept cliffs. In the shadow of the Blue Stack Mountains, the town of Donegal has been renowned for its handwoven wool sweaters for generations. Woven from wool that is flecked with the colors of Irish earth and sky, this comfortable sweater is hand-knit in blocks of tan and peat, charcoal and heather. Lightweight and insulating, wool is one of the most travel-friendly natural fabrics available and shrugs off Donegal's morning mist with ease. Hand-knit in Ireland.
Hand-knit in Ireland.
Hand-wash or dry clean.
In the shadow of the Bluestack Mountains in northwestern Ireland, the town of Donegal has been renowned for its handwoven wool tweed for generations. A skilled weaver, working at a bench loom, could make up to 30 yards of fabric in a day, using home-raised wool that was often dyed using natural and local materials including moss, yellow gorse, and blackberries
Today the town's largest manufacturer of wool tweed is the Magee, Molloy & McNutt factory, which presides over Donegal's town center in a large redbrick building. The fabric is prized by the largest international fashion houses as well as tourists looking for an authentic piece of highest quality Irish artisanry. About 25 local craftsmen still work on hand looms in their homes, filling the demand for the bespoke look of a well-tailored tweed suit or cap.

Comments about Men's Irish Donegal Tweed Sweater:
I have to agree with the sentiments of one of your other reviewers. I LOVE this sweater! I should tell you that I am a female, a mother of two sons, and I bought three of these sweaters, one for each of us. I have quite a collection of sweaters from National Geographic. I love wool sweaters that look, or are, handmade. The yarn here is substantial, the colors are gorgeous, peat moss brown, tan, charcoal, and heather grey, all with natural flecks of color throughout. The wool is soft Merino wool, the sweater, made in Ireland. I did not find it to be itchy at all. I wouldn't be able to wear it if it were. There is no reason for a woman not to buy this sweater, you can't find women's sweaters like this. My sons love it too! As for the "burlap smell" my sweaters had that too, but it completely disappeared after washing. If you are going to hand wash, do it carefully, in cold water, no agitation. Mine had no shrinkage. Honestly, beautiful sweater, makes me yearn for spring!

Comments about Men's Irish Donegal Tweed Sweater:
I was initially attracted by the superb design: blocks of earthy colours complementing each other with simple elegance. For two days I returned to your catalogue, sending the image to family and friends and asking what they thought. The response was unanimous. This is a sweater from heaven. Beyond unconsidered ecstasy ,I took the precaution of checking measurements. The result is a perfect fit,and a real sense of well-being in wearing it.As for its uses ,I would take it to bed if not discouraged. Reviewer Number *1 must have an unfortunate experience with burlap. To me it smells as fresh as clean air. Perfection

Comments about Men's Irish Donegal Tweed Sweater:
I use this heavyweight sweater around home on weekends when doing chores. Sweater is too rustic for office wear. Two issues: 1) Sweater smells a bit like burlap; and, 2) Sweater pills very badly. On the other hand, this item looks and feels 'like the real thing' - handmade Irish country sweater.
