Japanese Maple Tree Growing Kit
The art of cultivating miniaturized plants is known by the Japanese name bonsai, but it's an art they adopted from Han Dynasty China (206 B.C.–220 A.D.). During Japan's Edo period (1602–1867), the country was opened to foreign trade and cultural influences, and China's ancient bonsai arts became a popular pastime with Japan's upper classes. Maple trees like this Acer palmatum atropurpureum were extremely popular, and this red leaf maple is one of few maple species that remain in Japan after WWII. Arrives in an ecologically friendly, biodegradable rice hull container, with seeds, saucer, and organic soil packaged inside.
- This delicate bonsai can also be grown to full size outside in USDA zones 5 through 8. (Areas where the average low temperature is between 0 and -20°F.)
