Balinese Offering-basket Ottoman
Festivals and offerings are two of the most important elements of Balinese culture. Handwoven offering baskets full of flowers, rice, or cookies are frequently left outside a home's front door as a gift to the gods. At local festivals and temple eventswhich occur frequently on the islandlarger and more elaborate baskets are used. These temple offering-baskets are what inspire the design of our colorful woven-palm ottoman. Artisans paint traditional Indonesian designs on the basket, which is then reinforced with a wooden frame, stuffed with kapok fiber, and sewn shut. These functional works of art are handcrafted by artisans in Bali.
