As American travelers took to the skies en masse in the 1940s, travel agents would display sleek aircraft models as advertisements of specific airlines' state-of-the-art fleet. This model shows the triple-tail, four-propellor Lockheed Constellation, nicknamed the Connie and a part of many major airlines' fleets in the 1940s and '50s. More than 800 Connies were produced at Lockheed's Burbank, California, factory during the model's lifetime. Aside from transporting a new generation of global sightseers, Connies were also used by the military during the Berlin Airlift, and one served as Eisenhower's aircraft during his presidency. Let this streamlined aluminum model take your imagination back to the golden age of American air travel.
