This traditional West African jewelry is created by Fulani craftsmen in Mali. One of the largest groups of nomadic herders in Africa, the Fulani customarily wore their wealth in the form of gold jewelry that they could carry with them at all times. Based on a design that has been worn for centuries, our lightweight earrings are handcrafted from hammered brass that is plated with bright 24-karat gold. 12-karat gold hinged earwires.
Approximately 1 1/2''L.

These earrings are gorgeous. I received them as a gift with the matching bracelet this Christmas. The gold colour is gorgeous and they tinkle beautifully in the ears, but unfortunately the wires are too short and become unclasped very easily. I wore them at Christmas and they fell off all the time. Unfortunately I can't recommend these earrings.

From National Geographic:Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We're pleased that you like the look of the earrings, and we apologize for the trouble you've had in keeping them clasped. Since the earrings are handcrafted of a somewhat flexible metal, you might try very gently squeezing the earring to bring the clasps closer together. One of our merchants found that did the trick on her own pair that had loosened over the years. If you would prefer to arrange a return or exchange, our customer-service department will be happy to help at NGCatalog@ngs.org.
