This monumental volume presents world history from an original perspective that provides fresh insights with every colorful spread.
For readers of all ages, world history is easily accessible, depicted as never beforeso that events occurring simultaneously around the world can be viewed at-a-glance together.
For example, see how Texas Instruments launched the pocket calculator the same year the Soviet Union launched the first manned space station, in 1971. Columbus sailed from Spain the year Martin Behaim constructed a terrestrial globe in Nuremberg. The California Gold Rush followed the Irish Potato Famine in the 1840s.
The book's innovative time line truly sets it apart, allowing readers to scan across the years and explore a single area or compare contemporary societies across the globe.
Neil Kagan, former publisher of Time-Life Books now heads Kagan & Associates, creators of innovative illustrated books. Over his 30-year career he has developed such award-winning book series as Voices of the Civil War, What Life Was Like, Our American Century, and the Time-Life Student Library.

Much more than a 'coffee table' book. While it is decorative it is also: readable; informative; great resource; accurate; and thorough. In short, this book is an amazingly concise presentation of thousands of years world history.

My 10 year old twins are fascinated - it's a little heavy, but what a story it tells about people on earth. We will enjoy it together for years as their comprehension grows.

needed information about a French Queen in the 15th-16th centuries. There was almost no mention of her. I guess what I needed was a more encyclopedic approach.

Comments about National Geographic Concise History of the World:
I do feel this is a perfect bedtime book where you can bookmark and re-read all the things you have mostly forgotten or wished you remembered from school. Its concise, so its perfect for younger readers who are often overwhelmed at the sheer size of most History books. I do feel its not necessarily a world viewpoint, so it may have biases, although they are honestly unintended.
